I was able to boot from the flash drive on my hp mini 110, and in the past I have ran Ubuntu on a flash drive on the 15-af131dx and it has worked fine. 1- go to acer and download the BIOS 3310 version (the 3309 is not available anymore) 2. I'd rather not though, because of the risk of electrocution, and I don't have an appropriate set of BIOS chip removal tools.Īnyone have any other suggestions? I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to avoid the cost or wait of ordering another BIOS chip - Asus in notoriously slow and expensive. My HP 15-af131dx wont let me boot from a flash drive. I'm at the point now where I'm considering a hot flash (where I boot up a working computer with the same BIOS chip, swap the good chip with the bad chip WHILE THE COMPUTER IS ON, and flash the BIOS from there). I went out and bought a floppy drive and put the BIOS image on the floppy, but that didn't work either. This doesn't seem to work (perhaps the crash during flash happened before this code could be burned into the chip), and all I get is a blank screen. This motherboard supposedly supports a "Crash-Free BIOS 2" feature, which allows you to put in a CD or a floppy with a BIOS on it and it will automatically boot to reflash the BIOS to the version on the disc. I get both hard drive and processor drive lights on, but I don't get a successful POST beep.
FLASH BIOS WHEN COMPUTER WON'T BOOT UPDATE
I tried to run the update program again, and it crashed again. I recently tried to update the BIOS through Windows (since I don't have a floppy drive) but the ASUS update program crashed in the middle of flashing the EEPROM (Windows didn't crash though).
